Featured Artist - Karthika on Shaker Cards with a Tute!

Hey all!!
I am so excited to have Karthikha Uday here with me today to be the on the Featured Artist series of Krafttime!!

Here is a little something about her :)

Hello Everyone,
This is Karthikha, an IT tech lead by profession, and a crafter by passion. I hail from the district of Erode, in TamilNadu, and settled in Hyderabad. I live with my husband and 1 year old daughter (who enjoys shuffling between Hyd and my mom's place!).
I've been into paper crafts since my childhood, making simple greeting cards, origami objects and looking forward to the Arts and Crafts period every week in school. Once I got into the IT industry, I took it to the next level by actually gifting my colleagues with a birthday card. I love the joy of giving something handmade and seeing the happiness from the receiver's eyes!
I stumbled upon Indian Craft Room last year and that is when I got to know about contests, blogs, tools, techniques, etc. I started blogging just to participate in contests :) There was the trigger to explore the craft world and I have a loooot to learn!! I also try DIY projects when I find time. Apart from cards, I do quilling and have made quite some earrings for myself and friends!

Inspiration?
I find my inspiration for cards in a lot of places – the first being the design team members in each challenge! I love the works of Sonia suprabha, Neha Bhatt, Pratyusha, Sharada, Rhizwana, Pon Malar, Sathya, Manu Gupta, Jasleen, Bhavana, Pooja... ah this list goes on! Each one has a different style and there is a lot to learn and get inspired from. In quilling, Dr.Pritesh is my inspiration though I’m much at the beginner level and can never reach her level of awesome work!! I havent found my signature style yet but definitely something more towards CAS and quick cards.

On to you Karthika! Let s see what you have for us :)

Here is my first shaker card, a simple one!

I took black cs for my base, and scored the front side to add a little texture. Then I took another black panel, cut out a circle in the middle using rotary cutter. I attached a piece of acetate to the inner side, and now this gives my window for the shaker.
I then cut out small pieces of foam tape and stuck around the circle. Added foam tape to the corners of the panel as well, filled the window with some colorful sequins and attached the panel to the base cs. There goes my shaker!!

To add some interest, I cut out a golden hollow circle and framed it around the acetate using foam tape. The sentiment is stamped on vellum using versamark, heat embossed using gold and black embossing powders. It is then fussy cut and attached to the base. The card is ready !!!!

Thank you Karthikha! It was wonderful having you over!!!

Isn't is wonderful guys!!! Head over to her blog and show her some love!!!
I will be back with another featured artist soon :)

Featured Artist - Jayashree on Quilled Flowers

Hey all!!
I am so excited to have Jayshree (THE Quilling queen) here with me today to be the on the Featured Artist series f Krafttime!!

Here is a little something about her :)

Hi Everybody, first and foremost, would like to thank Uma for this opportunity. I am Jayashree, the hands and brains behind Paper Mantras. I am from Chennai, moved to Singapore few months ago.

As a child, I was really interested in crafts. My craft periods at school would be the most exciting part. After school, college kept me busy, I couldn’t craft much.
And after getting into a fulltime job, I completely forgot crafting. Later, when I came across quilling, I couldn’t resist myself from giving it a try. And now, after almost 2 years, Quilling and paper jewelry has become a part of my life. I showcase my work on my page “Paper Mantras”. I also occasionally share my work on my Instagram account “Paper Mantras”
I do not have anyone as my specific inspiration. Inspiration comes from anywhere anytime. The art by itself is inspiring. The members in the facebook group “Quilling Queens” is a great source of inspiration.
I manage to work on my ideas whenever I get time. Usually I craft at night and on weekends.

In this post, I am sharing some of projects and some quilled flowers

This one is my recent paper base work. The pendant is inspired by mandala pattern.

This is another recycled project, where I’ve used paper cups. I’ve made some quilled leaves and malaysian flowers to decorate it.

This one is another quilled floral project, I’ve used some flowers and two shaded leces.

This one is a simple quilled décor. Malaysian flower being my most favourite, will get a place in all my projects.

Let me explain 6 simple quilled flower techniques.

1. The first one is a Malaysian flower, with a small twist. I’ve flattened the petals in the flower. I have used two colored strips here. It is called the Malaysian flower because the artist, Solehah Muhammad, who created the design is from Malaysia.  There are loads of tutorials available on the internet, so I’ve not added the tutorial in this post 
2. 2nd flower – Initially I created 5 open coils using a quilling mandrel. And then pinched at one place, to give it a teardrop shop. Later I filled it with the beehive technique. This beehive technique was discovered by Susan, from Indonesia.
3. 3rd flower – I’ve made loose coils initially and then pinched the ends and joined the petals together. I’ve used two colours in this flower too.
4. 4th flower – This is an usual Malaysian flower with two colours used in the petal.
5. 5th flower – This is again a simple loose coils, pinching the petals and giving it a curve.
6. 6th flower – I’ve used half the size of the strip for each petal, so I’ve got smaller petals. Then pasted four flowers together and made it into a earring. Attaching a clear picture of the earring.
7. 7th flower – This is a very simple form of a quilled flower. I’ve made tight coils and pinched them to tear drops. This flower too uses dual color strips.

Isn't that piece of jewelry to die for!!! Thank you Jayashree! We loved having you here. Head over to her page Paper Mantrasand show her some love!!!
I will be back with another featured artist soon :)

Cute Critters play Peek-a-boo!

Hi all!
Friday nights seem to me most productive for me lately.. I don't have the feeling that I have to get up the next for office work and can go on as late as i like.
Here is what I came up with yesterday.

A cute scene that I built up with a couple of stampsets.

First up I sponged the CS using mustard seed, Spiced Marmalade and Peacock feathers to give the sunny day and grassy lawn effect. Then I took some Concord chalk ink and bended it onto the ground.

I stamped the branch and leaves and added a few leaves on the ground too.

It is a sunny day, Hey, the sun has to be featured :D He looks a cool guy, though scorching hot !!!

Then came my favourute part! The cute critters!!!! The elephant and bird are from "Chirping away" stamset and the bear is from Jane'ss Doodles "Special Delivery" Set.

I colored everything using watercolors.

Don't they look like  a happy bunch playing "Peek-a-boo" and strolling in the jungle!!

Let me know how this went guys!

My Bundle of Joy

Hey you all lovely people!!! Hope you are having an awesome day !
I am!!! I am smitten by this "Special Delivery" stampset by Jane's Doodles. It is super uber cute and you just cannot take off your eyes from the cuddly babies in the stamps. Just feel like I want to snatch them out of stamps and cuddle them.
Today I am sharing a simple bookmark I made using two stamps from the set. A cutie baby in a bundle and a coordinating sentiment.

I stamped the image using Rangers Archival Ink and colored using watercolors. I die cut a scalloped rectangle and mounted the CS onto it.
Here is the stampset in full glory....

Isn't the baby cute!!! Yes!!!! But let me know how my bookmark did tough!

Love all the way from here :)

Hello Critters!

Cute Critters
Hey all lovely people!

I am super excited to share with you a cute critters card using Jane's Doodle "Special Delivery" stamp set and Peek-a-boo designs' "Chirping Away" stampset.

I took a 3X3 CS and inked it with Concord and  Chestnut Roan Chalk Inks for the backgrounds. Then I stamped the critters, a teddy and couple of birds. A simple sentiment to the card. I mounted it onto swirly PP. I hope you are able to get the super cool designs on the base card.

Special Delivery

Hi all,
I am so excited to share with you a cutie cute tag that I made using Jane's Doole "Special Delivery" stampset. It is an extremely cute stamp set and there are endless possibilities.

Here I have stamped the stork with the baby bundle and the sentiment "SPECIAL DELIVERY". THe filler stamps in this set is way beyond awesome and I have used two  (heart and star) in this card.
I water colored the stork and the bundle and inked the cloud background using "Peacock feathers DI" and "Concord" Fluid Chalk ink so that it gives a tone on tone effect.

The fillers are inked with sketch pens. I matted the CS onto yellow paper and added a baby ribbon to complete the tag.

Pink and Pearlie

Hi all,
A really simple card to share with you today using a tiny heart stamp.
This stamp is part of the Chirping away stamp set by Peek-a-boo designs. A simple card with pink hearts and a couple of pearls :)

It is one of the smallest elements in the stampset and I have stamped it several times to make it a background.

I have stamped this onto Beilo Cardstock which I received as a gift from Priya of TheCraftShop for her Birthday Celebrations. Did you notice that I stamped using DIs??? The paper takes ink so beatifully. And the sentiment looks so so crisp and neat. I have colored the hearts using watercolors and I could not find a seeping of colors on the back side On the whole an awesome CS!!!!
Head over to her blog to see some awesome tutorials :)
